INDEPENDENT DIRECTOR, HAILE GERIMA, COMES TO HYATTSVILLE TO CELBERATE BLACK HISTORY MONTH
ATHA, INC AND HYATTSVILLE CDC PRESENT EXCLUSIVE SCREENING OF TEZA, AN INTERNATIONALLY AWARD WINNING INDEPENDENT FILM In celebration of Black History Month, the Anacostia Trails Heritage Area, (ATHA) Inc. and the Hyattsville Community Development Corporation (CDC), in cooperation with the City of Hyattsville , are proud to present the premiere Maryland showing of TEZA , the latest release from world-renowned, independent filmmaker Haile Gerima. A one-week limited engagement of TEZA will begin on February 26th at Regal Entertainment’s Royale Stadium 14, at the University Town Center, in Hyattsville, Maryland. In early 2009, Gateway Arts District artist Alan Binstock won a juried competition for his sculpture called “ A Pilgrim’s Quandary”. The 2000lb sculpture was finally installed in October 2009, and can be viewed in all its glory on the plaza of the Post Park Apartments located at 3300 East West Highway. Make sure to swing by and take a look at the newest public art sculpture in Hyattsville. Over the course of a year, Andra Damron compiled a collection of photos, anecdotal stories, and artifacts for her book, "Hyattsville: Images of America", that delves into Hyattsville's history. Her book, written on behalf of the Hyattsville Preservation Association, is part of the publisher's series chronicles histories of small municipalities across the nation. Here's a short snippet:
Hyattsville, at first glance, may be seen as a typical Washington D.C. suburb with growth spurred by the railroad, streetcar, and automobile. Upon further examination, it is clear that the residents of yesterday and today make it a unique place to live with their commitment to community involvement.
